Writing, yoga and meditation are three complementary paths leading to the same goal: becoming completely present. After a personal quest of many years Geertje will share how a combination of writing, yoga and meditation can lead to enjoyment in life. This intensive is based on her book 'ZIN: Lust in je Leven door Schrijven' (enjoying your life through writing).
Besides surprising writing assignments we use easy yoga- meditation and conversation techniques to contact our One Great Life. In this Intensive you are not required to produce an end product or read something out loud. All beginners are welcome. The only requirements are a fast pen, a sturdy notebook and yourself. What we search for is literally within our reach. We go for the jackpot.
What is WROGA? WROGA (writing and yoga) is a mixture of writing, yoga and meditation, developed by Geertje Couwenbergh. It is a way of writing involving not only our brain, but also our heart and body. By approaching writing as a practice such as yoga, meditation or running, it becomes a way of training the 'presence muscles'. It makes your heart and mind more flexible, courageous and more available to yourself and others. WROGA teaches you to write and live better, with more sincerity and juiciness!
Program: Friday: #HEARTCORE Workshop During this evening workshop Geertje will lead you in practicing maitri, or loving kindness. This ancient contemplative meditation renders us 'heartcore': fearlessly generous. Here we sharpen the tools for our weekend's work: an open mind and heart. This workshop is based on Geertje's new book called HEARTCORE: a plea for relentless kindness as a solution for everything. This ancient practice is an antidote for narrow mindedness, cruelty and depression. It is manure for the cultivation of a strong heart. A heart with space for creatures and situations beyond our comfort zone, beyond the limits of the known, of our country, our ideas. It almost literally enlarges our world. It makes us more kind. Never mind our religious, political or cultural backgrounds, this is the practice of being human.
Saturday: 'First Thought, Best Thought': writing with your body This second part of the Weekend Intensive will be dedicated to exploring a new way of writing. This practice not only involves the brain, but the entire body. You learn how to write from your 'first thoughts', thus liberating your uncensored self. By tapping into the abundance of triggers in the present moment you learn to establish contact with your writing - and life itself. This day includes a vinyasa yoga session with Jasmijn Koelink, pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, formal and informal exchanges and writing assignments.
Sunday: Befriending your Inner Critic Writing knows lots of rules. You have probably learned to write neatly, to make clear sentences, to have a distinct message, to produce something worthwhile. Unfortunately we have all these expectations not only for our writing, but also for other aspects of our lives. As a result, many of us have a very well developed Inner Critic, in the shape of self doubt, uncertainty and listlessness. In this final part of the Intensive you get to know your inner critic up close and personal, and to befriend him in the end. This day includes a yin-yang yoga session with Jasmijn Koeling, led meditation, sharing, writing assignments and group closure.
